So when Katrina blew through New Orleans and took my fourth Three Dirty
Women book with it, I was pretty upset. I'd spent the better part of two
years researching that book, and while the pages are still on my computer,
the meat of the book is gone with the floodwaters. It was about Janey
Bascom's childhood home and filled in background on her first marriage. This
youngest partner in Three Dirty Women Landscaping Inc generated more
correspondence than any of the other characters, most interesting since
Janey was not a point-of-view character in any of the novels. It was set in
a part of Louisiana which is now largely gone. It will take more than
revision to resurrect that book.
I've made the difficult decision to let that book sit awhile and see if I
can come back to it later on. As consolation for losing that book, I'm
working on something lighthearted and fun as hell to write. Not yet sold,
but I have to do something to compensate myself for two years of work. Since
what I love to do the most is create new characters, I'm in heaven with a
whole new slate of folks upon whom I can wreck havoc.
Julie Wray Herman's first book, Three Dirty Women and the Garden of Death

Bitter Brew will come out from Worldwide in June 2006, followed by Three
Dirty Women and the Shady Acres in Dec 2006. Julie's website is
